Francois Lurton recently acquired the core properties in Tautavel that make up Mas Janeil after having farmed it on a rental agreement for seven years. While I was not enormously enamored of the slightly heady, heavy, ultimately drying results of vinifying in barrique the fruit from an old parcel of Grenache Gris and Macabeu, I’d like to sample them again in a vintage other than 2009. A basic 2008 red bottling suffered a bit from torrifactive and drying notes of wood.
